Hartford Public Schools announced Wednesday it plans to cut nearly 400 positions across the district.

Superintendent Leslie Torres-Rodriguez said the cuts are necessary because city funding has remained flat for the last ten years and tuition costs have skyrocketed.

Some 387 positions will be cut including 67 at Central Office and 320 across schools, Torres-Rodriguez said. This will mean a reduction of 16.5 percent of the Central Office and 11.2 percent of total schools.
