Thirty-six Illinois public school districts are under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, over whether they have included sexual orientation and gender ideology content in any class for grades pre-K-12.

Northern Illinois districts on the list include Freeport, Meridian, Oregon, DeKalb, Stockton and Galena.

The Department of Justice says if the schools are found to be teaching sexual orientation and gender ideology content, its investigation will examine whether parents have been notified of their right to opt their student out of the instruction. The DOJ says its investigation will also assess whether the districts limit access to spaces like bathrooms and locker rooms, and girls sports teams based on biological sex.
