A nationwide search for the next Broward County Public Schools superintendent has begun, the school district announced Monday.
Vickie Cartwright has been the interim superintendent since Aug. 1. After the School Board voted 6 to 3 against a request by member Nora Rupert to give the position to Cartwright in mid-October, they agreed to conduct a national search.
The new superintendent will replace Robert Runcie, who resigned after he was charged with perjury earlier this year.
The school district has hired Ray and Associates, an independent search firm, to lead the effort. Through Nov. 15, the school district is asking district stakeholders to complete an online survey that identifies the top leadership qualities they believe are most important, according to the districts planned timeline for the search.
