“These schools show what is possible to make an enduring, positive difference in students’ lives,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, who announced today the recipients of the 2022 National Blue Ribbon award.
273 public and 24 private schools were recognized for their achievements in one of two categories:
- Exemplary High-Performing Schools: These schools are recognized for achieving among the highest scores in state assessments or nationally normed tests.
- Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools: These schools are recognized for their ability to close achievement gaps between student groups and all students.

“I applaud all the honorees for the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Award for creating vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school communities where students can learn, grow, reach their potential, and achieve their dreams,” said Cardona in a statement.
Each year, the ED invites up to 420 schools for nomination. Its 39th cohort has proven worthy of exemplary status for the continued efforts to prioritize the success of its students. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has distributed approximately 10,000 awards to over 9,000 schools.
“As our country continues to recover from the pandemic, we know that our future will only be as strong as the education we provide to all of our children,” said Cardona. “Blue Ribbon Schools have gone above and beyond to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs.”
