Dozens of Florida school districts have already closed as Hurricane Idalia strengthens into a major storm, and now systems in Georgia and South Carolina are shutting down.
About 40 Florida districts are closed for the next several days, with Hurricane Idalia expected to make landfall in the Big Bend stretch of Flordia’s west coast as a Category 3 Hurricane on Wednesday morning. The forecast track has the storm weakening as it moves into southeast Georgia and South Carolina.
One of the largest Georgia districts in the path, the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, will shift to e-learning on Wednesday and Thursday. Appling County Schools, Bacon County Schools, the Liberty County School System, Long County Schools, Ware County Schools and the Wayne County School System are among the 35-plus Georgia districts that will be closed on Wednesday.

In South Carolina, the Charleston County School District and the Clarendon County School District will move to e-learning on Thursday while the Beaufort County School District offer remote instruction on Wednesday and Thursday.
One of the biggest Florida districts to close, Duval County Public Schools, which is headquartered in Jacksonville, is canceling classes from Tuesday to Thursday so its buildings can be used as shelters.
