An investigation ordered by the Mount Clemens school board found that Superintendent Monique Beels did not violate any of the Detroit-area district’s policies by renting out the high school gym to a local company for a private function, where about 20 entertainers performed, according to district and local media reports.

A scantily clad woman was seen twerkinga sexually provocative type of dancein a video of the October event that went viral, prompting outrage from some parents and other community members, .

Beels was placed on non-disciplinary, paid administrative leave in early November while a private firm was retained to investigate the complaints in order “to protect the integrity of the district, as well as the superintendent,” Earl Rickman, president of the Mount Clemens Community Schools board, wrote in .

“During the past two school years, Superintendent Beels has exhibited collaborative leadership, and moral character during challenging times,” Rickman said. “The Board wishes to express its full and unequivocal support in her leadership and guidance and is looking forward to continuing to work collaboratively with Superintendent Beels during the 2022-2023 school year.”

The board was fully supportive of Beels throughout the investigation, during which nine people were interviewed, he added. The board also demanded a local media outlet retract an article from November that claimed Beels was suspended for lewd conduct at the private event.
