It鈥檚 been well over one year since the public release of ChatGPT, the artificially intelligent chatbot that鈥檚 taken the world of K12 education by storm. To this day, many folks鈥攅specially students鈥 on AI use. This new resource may allow your teachers to meet this need.
Last week, Google, in collaboration with MIT RAISE, a new initiative from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that seeks to drive learning and education surrounding AI, released a free generative AI course for educators. The two-hour class is designed to equip teachers with the essential skills needed to harness AI tools.
鈥淭his responds to the need for continuous innovation in our school district,鈥 Jose L. Dotres, superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, said in a about the course. 鈥淏y empowering educators with the latest聽 advancements in AI, we鈥檙e not only uplifting professional practices but also giving them evolving tools to enhance the ever-changing landscape of teaching and learning.鈥
Miami-Dade is one of several school districts that are partnering with Google to bring these courses to their district.

By the end of the course, according to Google鈥檚 blog post, teachers will know how to use generative AI tools to:
- Create lesson plans and materials.
- Tailor instruction for different abilities. For instance, modifying lessons to meet the needs of students who vary in reading levels.
- Streamline everyday tasks like drafting emails.
Once a teacher completes the course, they鈥檒l be given a certificate they can bring to their district for professional development credit if their district and/or state allows it.
