A proposed draft policy that could ban “safe space” signs at Arrowhead Union High School District will be considered at its next school board policy meeting.

According to the district school board’s agenda, the proposed policy says, “…specifying certain areas as safe zones for some, as well as signage that promotes one group over others, can create a feeling of isolation, division, and estrangement. This can also create the sense that all areas of our school are not equal, with some areas being safer or more tolerant than others.”

The proposed policy goes on to say, “In the efforts to create safe, even, and fair environments for the academic achievement of all students, no signage, or other wording implying that a certain area is a ‘safe space’ (or anything similar to this) are permitted, as all areas of AHS are, and should be considered safe spaces.”
