Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month unveiled its brand-new state-of-the-art media lab at a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony that was attended by excited students as well as school board members, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Interim Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright, BCPS former Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, and representatives from the College Football Playoff Foundation, Orange Bowl Committee, School Specialty LLC and Broward Education Foundation.
The event celebrated a collaborative undertaking by numerous visionaries, funders and sponsors. Among the highlights of the high-tech media lab, which provides an engaging environment where students can explore and create, are a music recording studio, an esports gaming area with 12 stations, a 3D printer, an animation center and laser engraving machines that can be utilized by students to design class projects and produce their own clothing using special silk screens and embroidery machines.
There is also a performing arts section with a stage students can use to practice for drama, debate and poetry club productions.
The new media lab is part of the , which budgeted $3,690,142 toward primary renovation projects at Stranahan and was created in partnership with the College Football Playoff Foundation, Orange Bowl, School Specialty, South Florida 2021 Extra Yard Teachers and Broward Education Foundation. The larger overall improvement plan to the school, which first opened in 1953, included upgrades and repairs to other areas of the building such as the roof, STEM lab and HVAC.
