Orleans Parish School Board announces Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams stepping down

The Orleans Parish School Board announced that Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams will be leaving her position. Williams’ last day as superintendent will be Dec. 1, 2024. She assumed the role in July 2022.

“Dr. Williams brought new energy and enthusiasm to NOLA-PS, and our schools’ improved performance reflects her unwavering commitment to excellence. On behalf of the OPSB, we are deeply grateful to Dr. Williams for showing up for our schools, students, educators and the broader community,” said OPSB President Katie Baudouin in an issued statement.

Williams said she will write and consult once she leaves the position.
