The Ohio Senate has passed a bill that would give schools resources to develop and model a cursive handwriting curriculum. The Ohio Department of Education will be mandated to make the instructional materials available to all schools in the state, but each school can decide whether to implement it.
The Ohio Senate has passed House Bill 58, a bill that would give Ohio schools resources to develop and model a curriculum for cursive handwriting instruction.
The bill passed the Ohio Senate 27-2 on Thursday. It’s a bill that has been floating around in some shape or form since February 2017.
Since its inception, numerous changes have been made to the bill. A notable change is the bill initially required cursive be taught in schools. The new language would make it an option.
