New superintendent chosen for Botetourt County

The Botetourt County School Board on Friday appointed Lisa Chen as its next superintendent.

Chen has more than 23 years of experience as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and assistant superintendent in Virginia and Massachusetts. She is the assistant superintendent of public instruction at Louisa County Public Schools.

Board Chairman Michael Beahm said Chen was one of 30 applicants and one of three who were interviewed in person. The board was assisted in the search by the Virginia School Boards Association.
