Georgia superintendent wins聽top educator award for improved student achievement

Noris Price聽received the Georgia School Superintendents Association’s President聽Award聽for her work on student achievement,聽improvements to Baldwin County School District buildings, and the launch of a Montessori Academy.

Superintendent Noris Price of Baldwin County School District has overseen a 10 percent increase in student scores on the College and Career Performance Index and three straight years of record graduation rates at Baldwin High School since becoming superintendent four years ago.

Price, who received the President’s Award from the Georgia School Superintendents Association, has also overseen vast improvements to district buildings and launched a Montessori Academy in which Georgia College students work with district students.

Jerre Holmes has implemented a 1-to-1 districtwide program and created a reading foundation for younger students during his eight years as superintendent of North Summit School District. Recently, Holmes launched an initiative that pairs at-risk students with mentors, and has hired an elementary school counselor to bolster a mental health program.

For his efforts, he has been named 2019 Utah Superintendent of the Year.

Jason Irving has overseen academic growth at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in North Carolina since he began as principal in 2015, with test scores showing strong gains in all grade levels and subjects this past year.

Irving has also started a garden program and reintroduced healthy habits, such as physical activity, during the school day. For his efforts, Irving was named Kannapolis City Schools’ 2018-2019 Principal of the Year.

Talisa Dixon will return to Columbus City Schools where she will take charge of Ohio’s largest district in January 2019. During her previous tenure in Columbus, Dixon served as principal of Columbus Alternative High and another high school that has subsequently closed.

She is currently superintendent of Cleveland Heights-University Heights City School District.
