Citing significant opposition, the Missouri Board of Education stepped back from its plan to develop K-12 standards for.
A recent public comment period on the standards netted more than 1,800 comments and showed there was a deep divide among parents, community members and others.
Many felt strongly that the effort to teach self-awareness, self-control and interpersonal skills infringed on the rights of parents and was a waste of time.
The public reaction in Missouri is not unusual.
