Flanked by Central Florida law enforcement officials on Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantisdecried an order from U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland directingthe FBIto work with local law enforcement to address rising threats to school boardsacross the nation.
The governor called the order a “slap in the face” to local and state law enforcement, and pledged not to work with federal agencies in the capacity outlined in the memo, saying it would “not (be) appropriate.”
“To mobilize the FBI, there’s no need for it. There’s not been any sense that somehow folks here aren’t doing their job, if need be,” DeSantis said, backed by four Central Florida sheriffs, including Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.
