Schools across the country are struggling to find enough teachers, with at least 411,000 teaching positions currently open nationwide. At the same time, more than 40% of recent graduates are underemployed. That means millions of young people have earned college degrees only to find themselves stuck in jobs that offer low pay, little security, and no clear path forward.

These are not separate challenges, and taken together, they point to a solution hiding in plain sight.

Teaching can be the entry point into the workforce that Gen Z graduates need.

Trump keeps trying to axe education. Democratic attorneys general won’t let him /trump-keeps-trying-to-axe-education-democratic-attorneys-general-wont-let-him/ Wed, 06 Aug 2025 13:00:12 +0000 /?p=176702 The Supreme Court recently allowed President Trump to move forward with plans to cut the Department of Education’s workforce. In a disheartening blow that undermines the right of every child to receive a quality public education, the Supreme Court issued a ruling a few weeks ago allowing President Donald Trump to proceed with his plan to dismantle the Department of Education by laying off nearly half of its workforce.

As a mother of two boys in public schools and the product of public schools myself, this news was disturbing to say the least. Without any explanation, the Supreme Court cleared the way for the Trump 91¿´Æ¬istration to begin dismantling a cabinet agency, created by Congress, that is tasked with fulfilling the federal government’s obligation to support public education. And make no mistake, this 91¿´Æ¬istration will do everything in its power to hobble our nation’s schools—by cutting funding, supports, programming, and accountability measures that are critical to ensure every student has equal access and can live up to their potential.

But state attorneys general have the power to fight back. And while this case was a meaningful setback, it is only one battle among many we are fighting to protect our children and our future. With the rule of law on our side, we are winning far more than we are losing. The Courts have largely recognized that in America, we elect a president, not a king, and he doesn’t have the power to unilaterally override Congress’ power of the purse.

A federal judge is set to hear arguments over whether he should block immigration agents from conducting arrests at schools under a Trump administration policy that has yet to be acted upon.

Denver Public Schools is asking U.S. District Judge Daniel Domenico to block immigration enforcement in schools across the country while its lawsuit challenging the new policy plays out in court.

The suit says the possibility of routine immigration arrests in its schools has led to a drop in attendance. It also says the district has had to divert resources to respond to fear among students and families over the lifting of longtime rules restricting immigration enforcement near schools, churches and other sensitive locations.
