Its been nearly six years since 14-year-old Alyssa Alhadeff died after being shot 10 times in her English class at Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida.

She perished along with 13 other students and three school staff members during the rampage on Valentines Day in 2018. Seventeen others were injured.

I just miss my daughter Alyssa so much and I wish that she was here, the girls mother, Lori Alhadeff, told members of the Utah Legislatures House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee this past week.

For Jackie Rigby, student teaching is both a marathon and a sprint.

She teaches third grade at Whittier Elementary School in West Valley City, goes to the University of Utah to complete the coursework she needs to earn her bachelor degree in elementary education and teaches private dance lessons to earn some income.

Many Americans find common ground on what they want children to learn in public schools but there are deep divides as well, according to a new nationwide survey. The areas of division give rise to the question: Do Americans share national values they want taught in the classroom?

Max Eden, a research fellow at American Enterprise Institute, says he worries weve grown too far apart to reach consensus on what children should be taught.
