]]> Superintendent Carmela Levy-David is recommending the city create a new tax to help fund the cash-strapped public school system, arguing that a dedicated revenue stream could help stabilize the district.

Levy-David made the pitch Thursday to the city councils budget committee after warning the school system could be forced to deplete nearly all of its savings over the next few years if it does not receive additional funding.

We need sustainable, scalable investment in our schools so that we’re not coming back to the table every year trying to figure out where the money is going to come from, Levy-David said.
