Earlier this year, Louisiana teachers suggested ways to reduce their workload and improve their profession. Now, the state鈥檚 top education official wants to put their ideas into action.

State Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley said Wednesday that he will present the state board of education with a package of policies this month based on recommendations by a group of teachers from across the state. The policies aim to reduce the number of mandatory trainings teachers must complete each year while cracking down on student misbehavior and giving educators more freedom over lesson planning.

If the board approves the policies at its August 20 meeting, Brumley said they will make the teaching profession 鈥渁 little more manageable鈥 and could prevent teachers from quitting and leaving schools with unfilled positions.
